Thank you for joining us for our fireside chat with Dr. Adam Aponte, Chief Medical Officer at East Harlem Council for Human Services, Inc. Dr. Aponte is a pioneer and passionate advocate for providing quality healthcare, services, and products for disadvantaged and minority communities. Dr. Aponte will share his hands-on experience and innovations as he works with government, community leaders, patient groups, the healthcare industry, and entrepreneurs to encourage fresh thinking in support of bringing equity to biomedicine and healthcare. He will also describe his own inspiring story and his commitment to overcoming the deterrents and challenges he has faced as a healthcare professional within underserved communities.

About Seema Kumar

Ms. Kumar joins Cure from Johnson & Johnson where she spent nearly 20 years in senior leadership positions, most recently serving as Global Head of the Office of Innovation, Global Health and Scientific Engagement. During her tenure, she led the launch of the company’s Innovation Centers, JLABS and Global Public Health initiatives, as well as the CoLaboratory at the World Economic Forum at Davos and the award winning COVID-19 educational broadcast program, “The Road to a Vaccine.”

About Dr Adam Aponte

Dr. Aponte was born and raised in East Harlem, NY to Puerto Rican parents. Growing up he navigated his way through the public-school system in NYC and graduated with a BS in Biology from City College. He earned his MD degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in NYC. From a young age, Dr. Aponte has had an interest in studying medicine and was determined to become a physician. He saw a critical need to address and overcome the under-representation of minority physicians within healthcare and to improve healthcare disparities impacting disadvantaged communities, including his own. Dr. Aponte enthusiastically lends his support to community health centers, such as the Boriken Health Center that serves over 12,000 individuals each year and includes an array of services within family and adult medicine, education and outreach, counseling, and comprehensive HIV- related support services.
